Virginia Has a Rigid Process of Issuing State Roofing Contractor Licenses

The state of Virginia has a requirement on the books for roofers that they must have a license in place when performing work. This regulation is overseen by the Board for Contractors under the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. There are three different contractor's licenses available. The contractor must determine which one applies to his business approach. The differentiations are by the size of contracts the contractor will perform while roofing, both as single agreements and annual aggregate income level.

For example, a Class A contractor is allowed to perform work on projects totaling at least $70,000 and an annual contract performance load of at least $500,000 annually. Such businesses need to be able to show they have an asset base of at least $45,000.

Then next category down, the Class B contractor, can work on single agreements ranging between a low of $7,500 and a high of $70,000 and an annual income range of $150,000 to $500,000.

The lowest category, the Class C contractor, is limited to agreements between $1,000 and $7,500 per contract and an annual aggregate of no more than $150,000.

Virginia also imposes an experience requirement on applying contractors. Eligible licensees must be able to pass the state proficiency exam for the given contractor category. Additionally, an exam fee must be paid as follows: $60 for Class A, $40 for Class B, and $150 for Class C. If the exam is passed then the licensee must then pay $230 for a Class A license processing and $205 for Class B. there is no additional fee for the paperwork on a Class C certificate. Each license or certificate stands valid for two years from the date of issuance.

Virginia does provide some reciprocity for contractors already licensed in another state, but this depends on the particular details, so contractors need to check what applies to their specific state before starting work in Virginia.

Northern Virginia Roofing

Northern Virginia encompasses a large part of the State of Virginia as well as much (just over 30%) of its population. It generally includes Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Loudon County, Prince William County, Stafford County, Fauquier County, Warren County, Spotsylvania County, Clarke County, Culpeper County and some other parts as well. Northern Virginia is full of commercial and residential buildings and because of that it has a supply of local roofers almost unmatched throughout the country. See below for more info on Northern Virginia Roofing.

Fairfax County Roof Contractors

Fairfax County is a bustling part of Northern Virginia with just over 1 million residents. With over 1 million people, Fairfax County has plenty of homes and therefore, just as many roofs, of course. The county has a climate that changes seasonally and therefore many different types of roofing materials are used here. Its important to find a roofing contractor who specializes in your specific roofing material. Read the article below for seasonal effects information in Fairfax County, VA.

Understanding the Seasonal Effects on Your Roof in Fairfax County and Northern VA

One of the best things about living in an area like Fairfax County and Northern Viginia in general, is being able to take advantage of the clear season changes and enjoy the amazing natural sights that come about as a result of the weather shifts. However, as wonderful as it is to see winter snows, spring showers and flowers, and the hot summer sun, every season has its own effects on your home and your roof in particular.

A smart homeowner understands that the changing seasons also bring changing needs for your home, and they will do routine maintenance to make sure their house is prepared for those changes. Hiring a contractor to guide you through and complete the projects is a smart choice. In Fairfax the seasonal effects on your roof can be extremely damaging and it’s best to be prepared.

To fully understand the necessary seasonal precautions that should be taken for your roof, let’s start by looking at the spring and summer months in Fairfax County and NOVA. It’s hard to think about potential home damage when flowers are blooming and the weather is so nice outside, but if you don’t watch out for water damage from spring showers or debris from strong winds, your roof and the value of your home could suffer a great deal.

Be Prepared For the Season by Taking the Time for Roof Maintenance

Many home roofing experts recommend trimming back trees or tall shrubs that may be in the way of the roof. Doing so ensures a less likely possibility that the branches and leaves will find their way into the gutters and create a water backup problem. Or even worse, large branches could fall on and damage the integrity of the structure of your roof. It’s often smart to have a contractor inspect your roof for any past damage that needs to be repaired. Spring and summer is the perfect time for routine maintenance to protect your roof.

The fall and winter seasons in Fairfax County and Northern Virginia can’t be overlooked either. The extreme temperature changes are responsible for conditions that cause roof tiles or shingles to expand and contract on a regular basis. Winters can be frigid in this area of the country. One day can be 50 degrees and the next can find your thermometer reading 5 degrees below zero. Have your contractor come in and make sure your roof and the shingles are ready to stand up to the demand. A roof that has not been well maintained will lose heat fast, and won’t protect your home from the outside elements. If a contractor inspects your roof for maintenance and finds it to be less than adequate, perhaps it will be time to replace your roof entirely. A new roof will help your home be better insulated and will help you conserve more energy during the long cold winter months. Sometimes though, a simple roof repair job is all that is needed to cover you for a long time.
