Common Types of Tile Roofing:

Concrete Tiles

Concrete is one of the most durable materials for roofing. Concrete can withstand most weather conditions, provided it is installed correctly. Concrete tiles are made generally in small patterns in order to refract as much rainwater as possible. However, in some of the drier areas of the country, larger pieces can be installed, since the weather is less of an issue. Once properly installed, concrete tiled roofs can last a long time without any major maintenance or repairing. In general, concrete tiles can last 30 years (and sometimes much longer) without any replacement needed. Concrete tiling is the go-to roof style for homeowners who live in the drier parts of the country. But don't be misled - concrete roofs are very efficient at protecting your home from rain and snow precipitation. Concrete tiling is worth the investment, especially when you consider how easy it is to keep in good condition.

Clay Tiles

Clay is also a popular roof tile option. Just as effective at protecting your home as concrete, with an even longer lifetime, clay is a great way to cover your roof. Clay comes in a number of different shapes and colors, and is the popular choice when designing a roof for visual appeal as well as for protection. If properly cared for, clay tiles can last as long as you are alive. Although heavy and somewhat expensive to install, when compared to asphault roofs and other materials, it is easy to see that clay will be worth the price in the long run. Besides a few chipped tiles, clay roofs require minimal maintenance. On the contrary, asphault roofs need to be replaced every 15 or so years, and will require shingle replacement every few years due to shingles being blown or knocked loose. Clay roofs are more of a set it and forget it type roof option, so if you would rather not be on your roof every year nailing down shingles, clay tiles may be worth the initial investment. Another factor to consider is the added value that clay roofs can add to your home. If you plan to sell your home down the road, clay tiles are a great addition to any house.

Terracotta Tiling

Terra Cotta roof tiling is a type of clay roof tile that was made popular in Europe. The style of terra cotta roofs is so unique that many homeowners try to replicate the old-fashioned look of terra cotta tiles. Some of the larger roofing companies will import terra cotta style tiles directly from Europe to give the home an authentic roof. These tiles make a great visual statement, and give your home a taste of class. Authentic terracotta roofs can be expensive, however. Terra Cotta provides the same protection as clay tiles, so you know that your home will be well-protected for decades.
