Admitted to the Union in the year 1890, Wyoming is the 44th state of the United States. It is home to roughly 576,850 people, and ranks as the 10th largest state, occupying an area of 253,600 km2. Facing a rather dry and windy atmosphere in general, Wyoming is dominated by semi-arid climate (where the precipitation is more than desert areas, but still on the lower side) and continental climate (known for their summer-winter extremes). As mentioned, rainfall is scarce here - most of the state receives less than 10 inches of precipitation every year. Wyoming also holds the record for some of the highest and lowest temperatures recorded in the United States - at 46 degrees Celsius at Basin (1900), and -54 degrees Celsius at Riverside (1933) respectively. Wyoming's south-eastern plains are fairly vulnerable to thunderstorms, especially during the late spring to early summer period.
The extreme weather situation of Wyoming warrants people to opt for rooftops that can tolerate the fluctuation with the least possible damage. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that asphalt shingles are the first choice for them, given as they can be built with little inconvenience, last for decades, require medium maintenance and in the right hands, can do wonders for curb appeal. In recent days, many have also gravitated towards asphalt fiberglass roofs - these have an additional layer of the material in addition to asphalt, and are generally more weatherproof. Wooden shingles, rubber-coated roofs and composite roofs are also fairly in use, especially amongst homeowners. Commercial properties on the other hand often use flat roofs as an alternative.
