Admitted to the Union in the year 1859, Oregon is the 33rd state of the United States. It is home to roughly 4,246,155 people, and ranks as the 9th largest state, occupying an area of 254,806 km2. Oregon largely enjoys a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, facing warm and dry summers, and contrastingly cold and wet winters. The Eastern section of the state, however, is more desert-like and faces a colder version of semi-arid climate, with very less precipitation. This "cold" nature of the climate in general is the result of the influence of the Arctic cold waves. Snowfall occurs most in the Cascade Range area, while rainfall occurs mostly in the coastal areas.
While Oregon homeowners do look for the usual elements such as strength, low-to-medium maintenance, many of them are now looking for alternative options that can help them conserve resources such as water or electricity. Finding an innovative solution to their intention is not uncommon here. Take for example reclaimed slate shingles, which solve the problem of cost in new slates by taking slate shingles from older homes and recycling them. Others may use vegetative roofing systems, which contributes to the ecology and also prevent the growth of pests and harmful plants. Those with more budget on their hands and a preference go for other expensive conventional materials such as tile or wood.
