Find Local Georgia (GA) Roofing Contractors

Georgia residents are more than familiar with strong winds and heavy rains.  When hurricane season hits Georgia (GA) homes and commercial buildings are hit hard.  They must withstand Mother Nature’s forces to ensure the interior and supports are as strong as the day they were build.  The most important line of defense is a buildings roof.  The roof keeps harmful water away from the delicate interior of a home or office.  The second you notice a problem with your commercial or residential roof you should consult a local roofing contractor.  These experts will be able to properly diagnose your issues and suggest the best possible solution, repair or replacement.

If you’ve looked for a home improvement contractor for your Georgia roofing project before, I’m sure you’ve noticed that they seem to be a dime a dozen these days.  That means that searching through the local phone book to find a roofing contractor isn’t your best bet.  Roofing-Directory’s easy to use online roofing contractor referral service is dedicated to helping all Georgia (GA) home and business owners find the right roofing contractor for all of their roofing repair, replacement, installation and inspection needs.  All you have to do is fill out the short form here on your right and we’ll get you started.  Compare free estimates from up to four of your area’s best roofing contractors on all of their services.  Get started today and save big on your next commercial or residential roofing project!

Georgia Roofing Contractors and the State Licensing Process

Unlike some states, the state of Georgia does not require a roofing license per se for a business or a contractor to work on a residential home roof. That said, a business working from out-of-state must least be registered with the Georgia Secretary of State if a corporation. Any roofing business or contractor must at least have a professional license from the same state agency to be able to legally take on building or construction permits for projects.

The requirements for the professional license include simply taking a state license exam and paying the requisite exam fee. However, there are a number of steps involved in the application itself.

Applicants will be required to pay a nonrefundable charge of $200 with the application for it to be processed. Applicants need to be at least 21 years of age, be of good moral character and have either four years of work experience in the construction industry that can be documented or a four-year college degree. A combination of experience and college courses can be substituted as well. Those applying with the education criteria must provide a sealed school transcript proving academic performance. The application also requires applicants to submit permission for a civil background check by the state as well.

Finally, contractors will need to show documentation that proves bonded insurance that covers contractual risk up to $500,000 and proof of having a workers compensation policy in place for hired help. This only applies where the applicant is a business employing others to do the work. If the contractor performs all the work himself, the workers compensation policy is not required.

It should be noted that much of the above criteria is fairly new for the state of Georgia. These legal changes are in response to a significant push for tighter requirements on Georgia contractors to make sure that valid, legitimate contractors have work in the state and consumers are not harmed by unscrupulous individuals or parties not intending to fully follow through on their contracted work.
