A Little About Will County, Illinois

Will County is located in the North Eastern area of the Sate of Illinois in the United States. It is a part of the metropolitan area of Chicago, and has the fastest growing population of all counties in Illinois. It has an area of 849 square miles, 12 square miles of which is water. Three rivers, Kankakee River, Du Page River and the Des Plaines River flow through Will County, and at its western border. Will County was created in 1836 from the three existing Counties of Cook, Iroquois and Vermilion. The name is derived from Dr. Conrad Will, a businessman in southern Illinois who worked in the salt production industry. He was also a politician. Interstates 55, 57, 88, and 355 run through Will County, as well as several US. Highways and a dozen local Illinois Routes. Over 20,000 acres of land has been reserved as parkland, including Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, the Des Plaines Fish and Wildlife Area, and Channahon State Park. Will County has a hub of natural gas pipelines running from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada, and fanning out all across the Midwest. Some notable historical landmarks are the Illinois and Michigan Canal, the Ninth Street Seven Arch Stone Bridge, and the Briscoe Mounds.
